Things you should buy first for your baby:
- Cradle or baby crib
- Solid mattress (without plastic cover)
- 1 waterproof baby mattress bed pad
- 3 flannelettes
- 3 sets of cradle crib fitted cotton sheets
- 2 cradle or baby crib fitted blankets (preferably cotton or wool)
- 6 baby sweaters, two sizes (not the smallest)
- 6 shirts/rompers
- 6 bibs and burpees – 6 hydrophilic washcloths
- 6 flannel diapers
- In case cotton diapers are preferred:
12 hydrophilic diapers - In case paper diapers are preferred:
12 hydrophilic diapers and 1 pack of paper diapers: smallest size - enkele grote en kleine veiligheidsspelden en/of 1 rol schilderstape
- Baby soap – baby salve – baby oil – Hair brush – changing pad
- 2 large metal baby hot-water bottles with screw cap and rubber connection inside the cap, do not use plastic or rubber hot-water bottles
- 2 cotton hot-water covers
- 1 baby bath or bathing bucket
- 1 diaper pail
- 1 dustbin
- Feeding bottle, several nipples and a tin of baby food (please consult your obstetrician about this). If you breastfeed, you do not need anything else.
What to buy first for the mother:
- 1 or 2 packs of menstrual diapers
- 1 pack of sanitary napkins
- 1 pak papieren inlegluiers
- 5 cellulose pads 60×60
- 2 packs of gauze dressing 16×16
- 1 pack of zigzag wadding
- 10 pcs. of big gauze dressings*
- 1 sterile navel clamp*
- 1 bottle of alcohol 70%
- 1 thermometer (digital)
- Towels and Wash cloths
- Rubber bed sheet
- Bed pan ** and wash basin
- Bottle with a wide neck or a one litre measure
- Bed raisers (in consultation with your obstetrician) **
* You do not need these in case of a hospital delivery
** You can borrow these objects from a home care shop.
